Ein 50-Jähriger hat andere Bedürfnisse, eine andere Lebenssituation, andere körperliche und geistige Voraussetzungen und will dementsprechend differenzierter behandelt und von der Werbung angesprochen werden, als ein 65-Jähriger oder jemand der bereits eighty Jahre oder älter ist.
Die Unterschiede anhand von verschiedenen Kriterien aufzuzeigen ist Ziel dieser Arbeit. Dabei wird primär eine Abgrenzung der unterschiedlichen Gruppen vorgenommen, wohl wissend, dass dies nicht immer eindeutig möglich ist. Die Ausdifferenzierung geht einher mit einer Segmentierung des Marktes und erfolgt anhand der Kriterien regulate, Alters- und Kohorteneffekte, Lebensphasen und Lebensstile.
